Spring 2001 DNS Server Changes

On May 28th, 2001 RUCS/TD will be altering the behavior of the majority of the dns servers run by our group. Since July 1st, 2000 TD has been maintaining a group of network service systems to provide dns services to the university community. After May 28th the network service systems will be the only DNS servers managed by TD that clients on RUNet should use for DNS. All other systems run by TD which may have been previously utilized for DNS must not be used after this date.

The university maintains a small group of other servers to provide DNS to the global internet. These servers are only intended to provide their information to other DNS servers and hosts outside the Rutgers network; they will not work correctly if utilized by client systems. After May 28th these systems will be configured so that they will no longer be functional as DNS servers for clients on the Rutgers network.

Below is a table listing some of the DNS servers TD runs that have historically been used by the university community. None of the servers listed below should be utilized after May 28th. Though some of these servers will continue to operate in one form or another none of them will fulfil the needs of a client system.

DNS servers that will be non-functional after May 28th.
